    About Me

Alfred Hitchcock textile portrait in monochrome, reverse applique and freehand machine stitching

    My Background

I am a textile artist working in Whaley Bridge on the edge of the Peak District in Derbyshire producing work under the guise of ‘Handmade In Horwich End’ a business I created early in 2016 after more  than 20 years working in the rail industry. I attended Art school in the late ‘80’s specialising in fine art/painting but have found my passion currently lies in textile art.

reverse applique miniature portrait of Marc Almond, Soft Cell in monochromatic scheme of pure fabric

    My Medium

I work in both 2D & 3D formats, using predominantly fabric and thread. I often recycle unwanted materials while producing original works. Many of my works are produced using a reverse applique technique together with freehand machine embroidery. I very rarely use anything else other than fabric and thread and build  my images by removing layers of material whilst layering up stitches
